2017 AEA Divisional Professional Development Conference

The 2017 AEA Divisional Professional Development Conference will be held on March 24-26, 2017, at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) in Birmingham, Alabama. This dynamic conference will provide an excellent professional learning experience for all AEA members – classroom teachers, education support professionals, instructional leaders/administrators, and postsecondary educators. Participants are sure to learn something to enhance their educational knowledge and job performance.
This year’s conference will emphasize ways in which AEA members may use the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) to positively impact student performance and organize members around professional issues. Additional sessions to be presented at the conference include: Finding Common Ground on Bullying, Cultural Competence for Educators, Technology for 21st Century Instructional Leaders, and Proactive Discipline Measures in Alabama Public Schools. Another one of AEA’s newest exciting additions to this year’s conference will be support for National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) who plan to renew their National Board certificates. If you plan to renew, then you do not want to miss this conference! Sessions will be provided for educators who want to begin working on a Professional Learning Unit (PLU) in Standard 5 – Community and Stakeholder Relationships; Standard 6 – Technology; OR Standard 3 – Human Resources Development. Other requirements must be fulfilled online after attending the Divisional Professional Development Conference sessions, in order to earn a PLU. Sessions will also be provided for classroom teachers and specialty area educators to earn professional development clock hours for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and for education support professionals in areas such as parental and community engagement, innovative technology skills, professionalism in the workplace, and much more. In order to receive professional development credit hours for participation in the Divisional Professional Development Conference, participants must enroll on Chalkable PD using PD Title Number AEADPD. Certificates of attendance will be provided for those who do not require documentation of professional development credit.
The conference registration fee is $30.00. The fee for non-members is $250.00. For members who plan to attend the conference to begin working on a PLU, the registration fee is also $30.00; the fee for non-members is $500.00. On-site registration is $60.00 per member. The conference registration fee covers dinner on Friday, breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, and lunch on Saturday. Meal tickets may also be purchased for guests attending the conference with registered participants. Breakfast tickets and lunch tickets will be available for $25.00 each. Dinner tickets will be available for $30.00 each. A ticket is required for all meal functions.
Housing reservations are to be made directly with the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel by calling 205-324-5000. The AEA Group Rates are $129.00 – single/double; $139 – triple; and $149 – quad. The deadline to receive the AEA Group Rate is February 27, 2017. After this date, standard room rates will apply based on availability only.
