The AEA Student Programs Division (SP) consists of the Future Teachers of Alabama (FTA), high school students who have chosen teaching as a career choice and who have been recommended by faculty members to join, and Student Alabama Education Association (SAEA), college education majors. This department keeps members abreast of activities on the national level, organizes and coordinates programs and activities for the student members on the state level, and assists with the organization and implementation of programs on a local level.
The SP Department organizes and coordinates one conference annually for FTA members and two conferences annually for SAEA members. The department also provides on-campus speakers for specific topics affecting student members.
The SP Director visits college campuses and high schools to keep the members abreast of association benefits and activities and provides information on association services to potential members.
The SP director encourages local and state participation of the student members to help develop leadership skills and take advantage of the networking opportunities and many other benefits available through the association. SAEA members serve on national committees, as AEA and NEA delegates, and on the AEA and NEA Board of Directors.
One of the advantages or benefits of being a student member is the opportunity for job referrals. Senior members of the Student Alabama Education Association are encouraged to submit information for mini-resumes*. This information will then be disseminated to local school systems for employment purposes. If you are interested in having information sent out on your behalf, complete the mini-resume form at the beginning of your senior year. The information will then be compiled and sent to your geographic area of preference. The Association does not guarantee employment. If you have any questions, please contact Sandra Jackson at 334-834-9790, 1-800-392-5839 or via email at sandraj@alaedu.org.
