AEA Student Elections

Renew your membership online today. Click here.

One of the many opportunities available to our student members is the ability to participate in the policymaking process of the National Education Association by serving as a delegate to the National Education Association (NEA) Representative Assembly.

The NEA Representative Assembly is the meeting of the representatives from all over the nation to vote on issues affecting the association nationwide. This year the NEA Representative Assembly will be held July 1-6, 2008 in Washington, D.C. Expenses for elected delegates will be borne by NEA/AEA. The number of delegates for which each state is eligible is based on membership as of March 15, 2008. Based on our membership, Alabama is eligible to elect four (4) student delegates to attend the NEA Representative Assembly. Bylaw 3-1, g of the National Education Association states that, “It is the policy of the Association to achieve ethnic-minority delegate representation at least equal to the proportion of identified ethnic-minority populations within the state.” Please keep this in mind when making your nominations.

If you are interested in running for a delegate position, please complete the nomination form and return it, along with a brief biographical sketch and a photo to this office by 4:45 p.m. April 14, 2008, so that the information on nominees can be printed in the Journal prior to the voting period. This year’s elections will be online.

Nomination forms may be faxed (if not including a photo), e-mailed, mailed, or hand-delivered to the following:

                                                Audrey Ravinia
                                                P. O. Box 4177 • 422 Dexter Avenue
                                               Montgomery, AL 36103-4177
                                               Fax (334) 263-5913

Any nomination form received after the deadline will not be considered.  After passage of the deadline, chapters will be instructed via email on the process of voting. All members must be given the opportunity to participate in the NEA delegate election process.
