I Can Do It is a one-day classroom management workshop developed to ease the transition of novice teachers into the classroom and to retain good teachers. In this interactive training program, the teachers learn ways to improve their classroom management skills, handle challenging students, and create smoothly flowing classrooms.
I Can Do It participants earn six professional development hours that can count toward certification in HOUSSE and the renewal of teaching certificates. Most importantly, this training helps teachers become more effective in the classroom.
“The session is highly interactive with participants sharing solutions to common challenges under the tutelage of some of Alabama’s best teachers," according to Tyna Davis, manager of AEA's EPPP Department. "Participants learn how to establish a safe and supportive learning environment in the classroom and learn about their own communication and learning styles as well as their students’ styles.”
“I Can Do It offers a unique professional development experience where educators can discuss difficult issues with expert teachers in a confidential environment. Additionally, participants are provided with tools to build positive parent/teacher relationships and opportunities to establish networks for future support,” emphasized Davis.
Principal Natalie Griffin, of Bessie C. Fonvielle Elementary School in Mobile County, says “As a state, there are not many resources to help teachers with management. Teacher training is crucial. I Can Do It will have a positive, long-term effect for the students, and the teachers are really excited.” The I Can Do It training fits into Fonvielle school’s action plan for excellence.
Many see this as one of the numerous reasons that all teachers should be AEA members. They are even encouraging non-members to join in order to take advantage of this training that is free for AEA members.
