Participants will learn the following general strategies:
1. Weighing personal issues and experiences when deciding to run for office
2. Determining which Association office to seek
3. Developing a basic campaign plan
4. Managing time effectively while campaigning
5. Making effective use of technology
6. Raising funds
7. Preparing and delivering campaign speeches
8. Presenting oneself well
HCR offers CTW to 50 participants, all of whom will be selected by criteria developed
by the NEA Women's Issues Committee. The program is open to ALL Association
members. However, persons who are announced candidates for local, state, or
national Association office during the NEA's 2007-2008 fiscal year (September 1,
2007 - August 31, 2008), will not be eligible to participate.
Campaigning to Win will be offered November 15-18, 2007. The following criteria
should be considered:
• CTW is an advanced, intensive three-day workshop program.
• CTW is designed for members who have served in some Association leadership
capacity and have plans for future leadership roles in the Association.
• A team composed of Women* s Leadership Training Program peer trainers and HCR
staff will conduct the CTW training.
• The full program does not provide any time for other activities, such as touring the
city.
• NEA pays for travel and lodging. An acceptance of selection to this program is a
commitment to attend all sessions of the training.
• Participants must secure leave from their employers. NEA will not reimburse for
substitutes or per diem.
• If you are selected to attend CTW, you would be expected to arrive by 4:30 p.m. on
Thursday, November 15, 2007, and depart after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 18,
2007. Participants will be expected to make their airline reservations accordingly.
To be considered for this program, your application must be postmarked no later
than Friday, September 14, 2007. HCR staff will contact selected applicants for this
program and provide them with details for the training, and travel arrangements
during the week of October 8,2007.
