The minimum number of state funded teacher units for each school is set by law. The minimum number of teachers is computed based on the enrollment during the first 20 days on roll after Labor Day of the previous school year. Through the 2005-2006 school year, the basis was the first 40 days of the previous school year instead. AEA has computed these numbers for every system, every school, and every grade level within each school.
The difference between the minimum teacher allocation and the number of teachers required to meet the class size caps results in funded teacher units that can be used for special education, P.E., art, music, electives and the like. Allocation tables reflecting these changes are available here or from your UniServ Director.
Calculations have been done for the 2005-2006 school year and the 2006-2007 school year using the older version of the law and for the 2007-2008 school year under current law. Email a request for the files for the school district of your choice.
