Who Sets Association Policy?
Association policy at all levels is set by the
members, either directly or through elected representatives of the members. An assembly of elected member representatives meets annually (usually the 1st week of December) to pass constitutional changes, resolutions, and business items. These passed items set guidelines and policy matters for the year. Staff, working closely with the governance structure, moves forward during the year in carrying out the mandates of the resolutions and business items. General and overall policies of the Association are set by goals and objectives found in the
Association Constitution.
- The AEA has several standing commissions that help formulate policy and procedures for the AEA. These commissions are appointed by the AEA President from AEA members who wish to serve.
- Many AEA members are affiliated with divisions within the organization that meet separately and assist in developing policy for the AEA. Each group promotes the welfare of its members and furthers the aims of that division. The division membership is unified with the AEA. Learn more about the divisions by selecting one of the buttons in the right column.
- The AEA through the support of staff, members and resources, sponsors other activities throughout the state such as the Alabama Aerospace Celebration and conferences like those of the Alabama Science Teachers Association and South Alabama Early Childhood Conference.
