AEA Field Services

The AEA Field Services Department  provides on-site  professional services for all members and local associations. Field Services is headed by Assistant Executive Secretary Mary Bruce Ogles, who is assisted by regional managers Michael Todd in Birmingham and Doris Strode in Eutaw. Thirty-eight (38) UniServ directors complete the Field Services Department and provide assistance to AEA active, ESP, postsecondary, and administrator members.

Membership in the Alabama Education Association entitles you to take advantage of the collective strength of an organization with 95,000 members in the state. The National Education Association (NEA) provides financial assistance to support the Field Services program offered by the Alabama Education Association to its members. NEA has approximately 2.7 million members nationwide.

The services provided to you as an AEA member by the UniServ directors include assistance with professional development, grievance proceedings, employment problems, employment hearings, salary negotiations, communications, policy development, political action, organizing, professional counseling, and training.

Your UniServ director is only a phone call away. A complete listing of school systems with their UniServ districts is available by using the 'What UniServ District?' link in the right column. If you are still unsure of who is assigned to your area, please call AEA’s toll free number, 1-800-392-5839.

AEA Student Programs

The AEA Student Programs Department (SP) consists of the Future Teachers of Alabama (FTA), high school students who have expressed an interest in teaching as a career choice and who have been recommended by faculty members to join, and Student Alabama Education Association (SAEA), college education majors. This department keeps members abreast of activities on the national level, organizes and coordinates programs and activities for the student members on the state level, and assists with the organization and implementation of programs on a local level.

The SP Department organizes and coordinates one conference annually for FTA members and two conferences annually for SAEA members. The department also provides on-campus speakers for specific topics affecting student members.
