AEA Elections
The AEA is governed by a board of directors elected by the AEA membership. The AEA Board of Directors is made up of the AEA president, the AEA vice president, the AEA past president, NEA directors, the divisional presidents, an AERA representative, and 21 district directors. Alabama has seven districts and each district has three district directors who sit on the AEA Board. The directors serve on a staggered year scale so each year one director for each district is up for election. AEA holds elections every year for all open positions on the AEA Board. Also included in these elections are the NEA state delegates positions for each district. These delegates are elected to represent the state at the NEA Rep. Assembly.
The ESP and Postsecondary Divisions elections are held concurrently with the AEA regular elections. If you have any questions about these elections, please contact Tina Collins.
Each year, the AEA Policies and Procedures Commission submits the elections rules along with the current timeline and open positions to the AEA Board for approval. You can find links to all elections information and nomination forms below when available.
What district am I in? Your AEA district and your UniServ district are not the same number. There are only 7 AEA districts, while there are 34 UniServ districts. You must use your AEA district when running for any board position or for state NEA delegate. Check the UniServ district map and the AEA district map to make certain which districts you are in.
